All I want for Christmas!

As Thanksgiving is only two days away I thought I would jump start my Christmas list!

  1.  More hours in the day to be creative, to take a walk with my dog, spend more time with my family and friends, to bake a homemade apple pie, laugh out loud, go out to breakfast, go junking with my two sisters, read a good book from start to finish and last but not least play more golf with my husband!

After careful consideration I believe that more time is all that I would like from Santa this year!  I think that the BH Boys have it right....I am going to edit some of my commitments, spend more time with the ones I love and cherish and last but not least put my feet up and read a good book!

My Late Fall Garden

I toured my garden yesterday; a much needed break from glittering, glittering, glittering and took some photographs of the flowers that are still in bloom.  A gentle reminder to be thankful for all of the small things that touch our hearts every day.  As Thanksgiving approaches I will be especially thankful for all  that I have that enriches my life.  The father of Diana's son is beginning his final journey with metastatic cancer and she will need all of our love and support in the next few weeks.  Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.  So let's celebrate our lives today, toast to our good health and take a few minutes to be kind to ourselves.
 Hugs Donna

FA-LA--LA-LA FA-LA-LA-LA FA-LA-LA-LA

Donna now answers the telephone, "Glitter Central, how may I direct your call?  "May I speak to Donna please?"  "Unfortunately, she is unable to come to the phone right now, she is covered in glitter and glue and if she picks up the phone she will be glittering it and it will become permantly attached to her body!" I an beginning to think that we may need to do a glitter intervention after the holidays!

Diana and I love, love, love antiques but kids and dogs are right up there on our happy list.  There is not a day that goes by that a child or dog does not touch our hearts!  We both have a collection of vintage dog photos that we both treasure.  I am going to share a few with you today in memory of my beloved cocker spaniel Taffy Ann who was my constant companion for 14 1/2 years!  Every person that she met instantly became her BFF! She was a sweet girl!  I am off to the garage (glitter central) for a few more hours of glittering!  Only 17 more days until the show and 38 more days until Christmas!  Where does the time go?

UNEXPECTED JOYS OF BARN SHOWS

While setting up for the last barn sale, Donna and I heard meowing-quite loudly in fact-so loud that we could not ignore the sounds.. So we looked around and in came a little calico cat. Love at first sight as she reminded us of Tau Sue who was one of many kitties that we grew up with as chilldren. As in past blogs you might begin to get the idea that Donna and I are bleeding hearts for any creature that comes upon our doorstep and cries. Well, this darling kitty shows up and looks really, really hungry. Donna says to me," I think she is starving"! That is all I needed to get in the car and drive to Coastal, Ranch and Farm and buy cat food. Now this is a big undertaking as I have not had a cat in my life for decades-too many to mention. So I ask the clerk on her first day on the job to help me pick out a cat food flavor. We debated and finally settled on Feline Favorites. When I got back to the barn the kitty ate 3 bowls and I was afraid she would die of over eating. Not the case! In fact like Dexter the Bull [earlier blog] she went out and told her litter mates about the food in the barn and the two crazy ladies who went and bought cat food after just a few meows. Low and behold, four kitties have come to the barn for food and shelter. Like animal fools that we are,, we fell in love with them at first sight and have been feeding them ever since. Now you might ask-how come you have not had a cat for decades-the answer is that we are both terribly allergic to kitties and cats. Touch a cat, touch an eye and it closes-that kind of allergic. Did that stop us from adopting these kitties-NOT A CHANCE! They were the highlight of the Christmas Show and many were tempted to take at least one of them home. We have since learned that they belong to the people we rent the barn from- so they do have a home. Never the less-the barn has become their home away from home and we have been going to the barn [Donna} every day to make sure the food and water bowl is full! Love those kitties!!!!

Rainy and Cold in Portland, Oregon

I just got back from walking the dogs in the soaking rain!  My amateur weather sleuthing missed this rain cell on the weather radar! Whoops.  The dogs are all dried off and are taking a nap.  I thought today I would introduce you to Sophia Isabella.  She is our tri colored almost 3 year old Cocker Spaniel with a  few loose wires in her brain!  She is so full of life and we love her to death!  She had a rough start in the beginning and defied all the odds by surviving a Parvo virus infection; the leading cause of death in puppies.  So here is a quick glimpse of what occupies a great deal of my time!

Diana is feeling better today but is still not ready to come out and play!  Maybe tomorrow! Hugs donna

Diana has the Dreaded Flu!

It is confirmed! Diana has the yucky flu!  She was in denial until she spoke with my daughter who is a pulmonary/critical care fellow at Oregon Health Science University.  It is hard to keep Diana down but I don't think she is going to put up too much of a  fight this time!  She has Doctor's orders from her niece to rest and recuperate.   Here are a few more photographs from last weekend!  I will post an update tomorrow on how she is feeling!  Donna

Diana is Down and Out

Diana has fallen into the land of the sick!  She is not quite sure if she has the flu but her puppies have been cuddling her in bed all day!  She said that she is feeling better this afternoon but my bet is she will be out for at least a week!  Yikes! what am I going to do?  The blog will never be the same or should I say not until she is feeling better.  I am going to try and post a few more photos from the Christmas Show at the Land of Tarte Barn!  Wish me luck! PS  Diana had to get out of her sick bed to rescue me from total blog destruction!  I think that I have it now but we will see what tomorrow brings!  Donna

THE MOTHER LOAD

Once in a while you get really lucky and get to go to an estate sale that has wonderful old, things that you love. Well yesterday iIgot lucky,-dead tired and dragging myself out to go to this estate sale-I ran into the mother load of all things I love! Lots of old textiles, tattered and torn baby clothes, buttons, lace, old millinary, an 1840 set of books, old candy jars, pictures, and fun old miscellaneous stuff. I still have two boxes to go through but wanted to share with you the mother load.  Lots of the vintage and old textiles will get a new life as Christmeas stockings and fun ruffley pillows. Enjoy!
